Replay Gaming is a fast growing UK social gaming company that operates Replay Poker (www.replaypoker.com), an established play-money poker site offering competitive ring games, tournaments and promotions. Our goal is to become the home of recreational poker online within 4 years.

The role


We're looking for a Technical/Engineering Manager full-time employee based in the UK, to join our small team of highly technical and experienced developers geographically distributed working via GitHub and Slack.

Key duties of the role include:

  • Directly supervising the technical staff
  • Hiring, keeping and growing the best talent
  • Converting product vision into well executed products
  • Working in partnership with the Chief Architect to develop and maintain the technical roadmap.
  • Working with the management team on strategy development
  • Managing the budget for the engineering department
  • Conducting code reviews, commenting on pull requests, and occasionally getting your hands dirty in the code

You will be managing our core development team working on our main Rails back-end and React front-end, creating new features, fixing bugs and improving an extensive codebase. Ensuring we can scale our entire stack to handle our ever-growing number of players. Two major projects for this years is the development of a new poker server possibly using Elixir and launching an HTML 5/mobile version of our existing Flash poker client.

  • We currently have a small London office (WeWork South Bank Central) where the CEO and COO are based, everyone else works remotely, 100% of the time. If you're close to London, then you'll have the option to use our London office whenever you prefer.

Our Stack

  • Website: Rails 4, a single page application with Backbone.js and a new React front-end in progress
  • Poker server: Ruby multi-threaded TCP server
  • Desktop client: Flash - ActionScript 2.0 (in maintenance mode) and a new HTML5/JS client in progress
  • Other technologies used: MySQL, Sidekiq, Redis/Sentinel, node.js, Go, Kubernetes and many more

You should

  • Strong knowledge in Ruby, Javascript, React, Frontend, Backend, Scaling Web Applications and Mobile
  • Proven ability to motivate and inspire a talented and creative technical team to perform at the highest level
  • Experience in defining, implementing, and oversee a highly effective and flexible development process that delivers on company goals and offers a collaborative welcoming environment for team members
  • Experience and expertise in growing and scaling software development teams, including hiring, developing, and retaining top talent within the industry
  • Proven ability to efficiently manage all aspects of the software development life cycle in an Agile environment
  • Desire to build highly usable customer centric products with an intense focus on building secure and reliable systems
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team, and be an excellent self-starter who collaborates effectively with all stakeholders.

Ideally you

  • 5+ years in software development
  • 2+ years experience leading (managing) and growing a small engineering team
  • Experience at a small, rapidly growing startup
  • Experience teaching others best practices and mentoring junior developers
  • Have professional experience working remotely
  • Enjoy playing poker!
